Local business woman, Lorrain Mbokane, was nominated in three categories for the 2024 Sunrise Excellence Awards; Entrepreneur of the Year- Medium Business, Leading Entrepreneur of the Year and Best in Tourism.
She said these nominations are indicative of her exceptional talent, dedication and outstanding contributions to the local tourism industry and also testament to the impact the tourism industry can have in changing people’s lives. “I am elated to have been nominated. It shows that the people of Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality have noticed my work and support what I do. I have been in the business for many years and I enjoy what I do. These nominations have encouraged me to work even harder. I feel humbled and grateful for being recognised and motivated to continue striving for excellence. I’m excited for the opportunity to network, gain exposure and possibly win,” she said.
Mbokane is owner of the Silver Park Resort in Nhlazatshe, a family favourite offering a variety of activities catering for all ages. From the playful laughter of children to the soothing sounds of live music, Silver Park is a celebration of life. “We provide a platform for up-and-coming DJ’s and a food court for people to showcase their talents and products. By offering them stalls at our resort, we help turn their dreams into reality. My advice to fellow business women is to ignore the glass ceiling and do your work. If you’re focusing on the glass ceiling, focusing on what you don’t have, focusing on the limitations, then you will be limited The industry is open to all genders of society and for us women to support each other and uplift each other,” she said. Winning the tourism award would be acknowledgment and recognition of her and the teams’ hard work and dedication and also enhance career or business opportunities.
She also runs Zalolusha Laboratories providing inspection and testing services, standards/procedures, teaching correct use of equipment and has been awarded a SANAS accreditation in February 2022. Zalolusha Laboratory is the first female owned Civil Engineering Testing Laboratory thus accredited. It also offers training in partnership with a SETA.
